Adopted into a family with loving parents and a doting brother, McKenzi Morgan has always seemed bright and highly imaginative. Shortly after their parents' tragic death, however, a teenage Kenz begins to present with the symptoms of multiple psychoses. Her brother Ryan refuses to accept the doctors' diagnoses, though, insisting that his sister is merely suffering from the trauma of losing their parents. But when her condition degrades to the point that she is speaking alien conspiracies and her paranoia threatens not only herself but the people around her, Ryan must choose between believing the word of the sister he has grown to treasure or having her committed to an institution....
"Kenz" was born on a hot, bug-infested afternoon in Em's backyard last summer as I worked away at watering the ever-thirsty plants which resided there. I don't recall the train of thoughts leading up to her inception, but she has become very real in my mind these last couple of weeks. She has long blond hair and blue-green eyes, and she's slender but not overly so. I can almost feel her panic and confusion when I think about her tale which is slowly fortifying itself in my mind, and I can see the emotions flicker across Ryan's face as he desperately tries to deny that which seems so obvious to everyone else. Kenz truly believes her "delusions" and as her protective older brother, Ryan wants to also believe. But aliens? The end of the world? How can he believe such things when it's becoming more and more apparent that Kenz is simply losing her mind?
