In My Manner of Speaking...

Anyone who read my May 4th post may have noticed, as Lysambre so kindly pointed out, that I used the word "xenophobic" out of context. Some might find it odd that I did so knowing quite well that that wasn't quite what I was wanting to say, but it's the truth. See, I'm one of those English speakers that abuses the language to the point that, at times, it gets to be twisted up like a pretzel. In particular, I have the habit of using words out of context on a fairly regular basis (though, it is much more noticeable in my speech than my writing). Therefore, I used "xenophobic" when I really meant something more like "shy". I could have easily changed it, but I can be verbally lazy at times.

Another of my verbal quirks is picking up new words and incorporating them in my vocabulary. This was really a bit of nuisance back in middle and early high school when I had more time to read in such. I literally got to the point that I couldn't think of any "small" words for many of the "big" words that I used! My speech now is much more... simple. Though, I'm not sure if that is a good thing as it may just mean that I've gotten stupider as of late (and yes, I realize "stupider" is not an actual word... I mean, "dumber" or "more stupid").

As you can see from the above paragraph, I also use non-words, which usually consist of my adding some sort of suffix or prefix. Lately, I've had a thing for using "ish", most times to indicate doubt or that something is minute (ex: "Oh, that is awesome..ish." "I'm just a bit tired-ish."). Then, of course, there's "ain't", stuff like "stupider", "ya'll", "dunno", etc. (And mind you, I actually talk this way...) I've also been borrowing Japanese name suffixes since my plunge into the world of anime and manga (my roommate has become "Roomie-chan").

Finally, the last major glitch in my manner of speaking is the use of incomprehensible sounds. "Ner", "Egh", "Na-ne" (borrowed from anime), "Oof", "Hm~m", "Huh", and the list goes on and on. I use all sorts of verbal pauses, also. Basically, what I'm saying, is that my speech, despite my knowing better, is a mess. Granted, if I put my mind to it, I could probably clean it up a bit, but what would be the fun in that? I just wouldn't be quite me without my verbal quirks, now, would I?
