Or so says Benjamin Franklin. My personal experience, however, shows that such an endeavor scarcely makes a lick of difference.
Sunday night, in preparation of school the following day and due to the fact that I was, in fact, tired, and my roommate had already retired, I was in bed and ready to sleep by 10PM. All was going well and good... that is, until shortly after 11 I aroused uncertain of the reason why. I turned over and went back to sleep, only to spend the rest of the night waking about every hour or so (and more and more frequently as my hour of awakening drew nearer). By the time my alarm went off, pushing the snooze was futile--I was already awake.
Last night, work went overtime a horrid 47 minutes (I'm not gonna get into it). Anyhow, I had homework to do before I could go to sleep, so I didn't get to bed (despite my fatigue) until around 10:45. I may have been asleep by 11:00... At 11:31, someone's shouting down the friggin' hall!! I woke. Closed my eyes. Grunted, tossed, etc. It was useless. I could've killed her, both the shouter and the person she was calling. It took me OVER AN HOUR to fall back to sleep! Needless to say, I am still not happy about the situation. Now, I know a bit how Roomie-chan feels (as she wakes up to almost literally every, single noise), I think I'll endeavor to be even quieter for her sake from here on out.
And pity the person who interrupts my sleep tonight... I have clinicals tomorrow!

Having slept for years in noisy places I've taken to wear earplugs every night.
My sleep has gotten way better since then (and this was about 6 or 7 years back).
The only down side is that if I don't wear them at night every single little noise prevents me from falling asleep ;).
And by the way I agree with Mr Franklin here, my day is much more productive when I rise early (and go to bed late, it makes the day longer !!! hehehe).
What about the inverse to that one? Late to bed early to rise, makes a woman tired and grisly(okay i know it doesn't rhyme, but its the best i can do).
See I'm a night owl who routinely stays up until sunrise sleeps for 2-3 hours than gets up.
I can not get up early without planning it days in advance! LOL! Never been an early riser and consequently, I am a late bedder too!
